NEWSLETTER – September 2017
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to the new academic year 2017/18 at St Peters  School from everyone at the School Association, and a special welcome to the new Reception parents. We thought we would give you all a week to settle in before we let you know some of our fund raising plans for this busy year ahead.
Last year was another successful one on that front and we are pulling together the final accounts now, which will be released shortly, with a breakdown of how much each event last year made.
Turning to this year, please see below some dates for your diary:
Tuesday 19th September 8pm in school
This is our first School Association meeting for the year. Come along and join us for a glass of something cold. It doesn’t matter if you’re not on the School Association, or if you have only just joined the school in reception and are maybe thinking about joining. This is an opportunity to get involved and help to plan our fund raising activities to benefit all of our children.  It would be good to see lots of you there.
Friday 29th September
At 1.45pm New Reception parents are invited into school for a coffee and a catch-up. Try to come along if you can and meet some other parents. This is a great way to make friends at the school. A few members of the School Association will be around to answer any questions you have about the school from another parent’s perspective. Second hand uniform and school hair bows will also be on sale there.
This is also the official MacMillan coffee morning/day so at 3.20pm there will be the grand opening of our new tea hut with teas, coffees and cakes served  in aid of MacMillan. If you can donate any cakes that day, home baked or purchased, it would be greatly appreciated – you can leave them in the hut that morning. We will also have a tuck shop that afternoon and this will be a regular slot for the last Friday in the month from the new hut, but for the first day there will be an opportunity to have a look around the new storage/kitchen area built recently for the School Association from funds raised.
Bags to school are now being collected from school on the revised date of 29th September. Your child should have brought home a bag for you to put any old clothes into and return it to the school reception area. This is a great time to clear out your old jumble and raise funds for the school at the same time.
Thursday 5th October
At 7pm in school, the Annual General Meeting of the School Association is held. You will be able to see what funds the school raised last year and what the money was spent on. Afterwards, there will also be some workshops on spelling, using db Primary and maths mastery.
Saturday 7th October
We are holding our first ever Barn Dance. This is a family event and tickets will go on sale shortly but please hold the date.
Monday 16th October
This is the annual penny race. Please start saving your pennies now as the children are asked to bring in as many as they can. It is a race for each class to lay them in a line down the length of the hall. It is great fun for the children and all pennies are collected to raise money for the school.
Friday 3rd November
This is our annual firework display. Tickets will go on sale in October for this event.
Sunday 12th November
The Mayors’ Community Trust Fund is a new charity founded by the Mayor with the help of members from the community. The charity’s purpose is to promote community cohesion through public events and they are putting on an event with the original cast of The Rat Pack! The show will be at the Brentwood centre on the 12th November (Remembrance Day) at 7:00pm. The Definitive Rat Pack will be supported by the “gold diggers” and a nine piece big band. This is a one off show and these guys regularly sell out in far away shores such as Las Vegas and Dubai. Tickets are £22 each and the school will receive a % of every ticket sold. This is bound to be a great night, so if you are interested just drop a cheque into the office to SPSWSA and we will organize the tickets for you.
Saturday 2nd December 10am – 2pm
This is the date for our annual Christmas Fayre. We will start collecting ideas, donations and volunteers over the next few weeks/months to make the event as magical as previous years. Definitely one not to miss!
There is a new notice board in the playground for advertising. Small cards will be available for completion and display at a cost of £2 per week. We hope this will be handy for anyone wanting to buy or sell goods or services and all funds raised go straight to the school. A box will be in reception shortly with the cards.
Lastly, we are asking for feedback on some other events that we are looking into. We would be interested to know if you would consider attending any of the following events. Please take the time to complete the slip below and drop it into the office or email it to : firstname.lastname@example.org or if you have any other ideas feel free to email us at any time or come along to the meeting next Tuesday.
